The End of Summer is a short novel of women’s fiction by British author, Rosamunde Pilcher. This is my large print edition from St. Martin’s Press. I’m a big fan of Pilcher’s and this book captures some of that style and the emotion and nostalgia in descriptions of far off lands that I love to read, but I felt there were some things missing in this particular book/5.
Summer Jacobs knew full well about her town’s tradition. Every year at the end of the summer, a party would be held on school grounds without the knowledge of the parents or the teachers. It had been happening since before Summer was born and never once was anyone the wiser.
This year however, everyone was going to find out/5. Although I typically withhold 5 star ratings for a select group of titles, I find that End of Summer easily qualifies. The plot is plausible, the characters are likable, and the storyline is by times thought provoking.
A very enjoyable reading experience, and I'm definitely looking forward to the second book!/5. End of Summer is a poignant, literary novel that explores the mysteries of life, love and death through the eyes of a nine year old boy interpreted by the man he grew to be.
